Two Americas

This is a very strange time, a very strange country I live in:  A time where marriage equality is now the law of the land while a vociferous hateful voice grows using religion to condemn others.  A time where the first African American President serves a second term in a country where black churches and people are not safe form the hydra of racism.  A country where men of means and power feel free to publicly demean an entire group of people as an endorsement  to being the leader of the same country they live in.  We may have progressed with laws, public policy, and social issues.  But morally we have evolved so little.  As this fourth of July nears I am reminded of two simple principles of the founding of this country:  The right to practice religion and worship without the fear of persecution. The right to live free of the persecution of religion. I truly feel there are two Americas.  One where the people wish to live free.  The other where the people wish they were free of you, even at the cost of your dignity and life.  Sincerely, I do wish everyone a happy July 4th, and hope you can all reflect on how blessed we are and remind ourselves what the true heart and ideals of this country should be about.  -
